Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions
These are just some of the questions I get asked about picture frames from Pure Framing. If it isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I will be happy to give you an answer wherever possible.
All of the frames I make are individually designed to your requirements. At Pure Framing the pricing of your frames is very straightforward. I offer you a free, no obligation consultation appointment at my workshop near Llangynog (Carmarthenshire). You bring the item you would like to have framed in and I will discuss your requirements with you. This will include the sort of budget you have in mind, your personal taste and design ideas, where you plan to display it and how much protection you would like built into the frame to protect the item.
If you don’t know where to start I will assist you by asking you some helpful questions so that I understand where you are coming from and I can then guide you through the process using my extensive frame design experience. You can see the design options for yourself before you choose with the help of the wide range of mount, moulding and glass samples I have available in the workshop. Once we have got it right, I will price it up for you.
You can go ahead there and then and leave your deposit for the work, or if you would like time to think about it, I will keep the details of what you have chosen and hold the price for two months.
Payments can be made by bank transfer (BACS) or in cash.
I take a deposit of 50% of the total cost of your framing work up front before I start the job to cover purchase of materials. The balance is payable on completion of the work prior to collection if paying by BACS, or on collection if paying in cash. All work should be collected within seven days of being notified that your work is completed unless otherwise agreed. Failure to collect within seven days may result in a storage charge as space is limited. If unforeseen circumstances mean that you can’t collect within this period, please give me a call to discuss.
Not currently. I accept cash or BACS payments.
There are a wide variety of options available for any frame design. This makes discussing materials and colours in the framing package difficult without doing this in person and with the artwork or item you would like to have framed in front of us. I can only give you an accurate price once I have seen what you would like to have framed, measured it and discussed the design and framing package with you. If you are a returning customer and already know the materials/design you would like already then it may be possible.
The price of a frame will depend on the combination of the following variables:
- What you are having framed
- How much protection you want built into the framing package
- What sort of moulding you choose
- How you would like it mounted
- What type of mount board you need
- What sort of glazing you would like
As you can see, it is not something that I can give you a definitive answer for without seeing your item and working through the selection process of design and materials with you in person.
Just to give you an idea of the price variations I am talking about:
A 500mm x 500mm photograph with a 50mm mount border all round could range from around £60 for the most basic package up to around £450 depending on the materials and mounting methods you choose.
A 600mm x 700mm sports jersey shadow box could range from £180 for a simple stitch-in over a shirt card, up to around £550 depending on the number of items to mount within the frame, the design and the materials used.
Pure Framing is a small business, so not VAT registered. The price you are given is the total price.
The standard time stated to complete an order is three weeks, although your order will often be completed in less time than this. The reason for this is that one of my suppliers only delivers once a fortnight to West Wales and the three week estimate allows for this. Please allow sufficient time at busy times of year (e.g. Christmas) and also if you have a specific date by which you need your framing completed.
Pure Framing is confident in the quality of materials and workmanship that go into the frames, so of course I am happy to guarantee my work and materials. You are given the opportunity to check your frame over in detail on collection. In the unlikely event that you find a problem with your bespoke frame after collection, then please get in touch and arrange to bring it back in so that I can sort it out for you. Please be aware that frames are delicate and need to be transported and handled carefully. They are also susceptible to changes / damage if hung or stored in an inappropriate environment. Advice is given to avoid these problems. However, even under these circumstances I would still encourage you to get in touch to discuss the issue and I will work with you to find a solution. If the problem is due to handling or the environment the frame has been kept in, I may have to charge you to sort out the problem depending on the level of severity. However, my goal is to have happy customers, and I would never want a customer to feel dissatisfied with either the service received or the quality of work, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have something you would like to discuss.
Yes, Pure Framing carries full Fine Art Insurance, so your item is covered both whilst in storage and also when being worked on during framing. Make sure that you know the value of your item so that you can give me this information when you bring it in for framing.
I ask that you call ahead to book an appointment. This will ensure that you get my undivided attention whilst we are discussing your framing and design choices. Appointments are offered Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 5pm, but if you are unable to get to me during these times then I can discuss a time outside of these hours with you when we speak on the phone.
No, there is no charge for a consultation.
Allow approximately 20 minutes per item. Please let me know how many items / pictures you want to look at for framing when you book so that I can make sure I allow sufficient time for you before the next customer appointment.
I only see customers by appointment at my workshop. This allows me to give you my full attention whilst you are here and gives us enough space in the design area to focus on your framing project. Please get in touch to arrange a time that is convenient for you.
Yes, Pure Framing offers a wide choice of both pre-finished and natural (for custom hand-finishes) wooden frame mouldings.
Yes, Pure Framing has a selection of options of aluminium frame mouldings and floater trays. These are ideal for larger pieces where you prefer a narrow moulding.
Yes, Pure Framing offers the full colour range from Farrow and Ball, as well as a range of wood dyes and waxes to achieve the custom or bespoke hand finished frame that you want.
Pure Framing uses museum quality tulipwood stretcher bars, made to measure for each canvas. We will professionally stretch your canvas either for hanging directly onto the wall (a museum wrap), or to be finished off with a frame. The quality of our stretchers means that they will not warp as softwood stretcher bars would. They come with canvas keys in the corners. These keys can be tapped out in the future if the canvas surface slackens at all.
It depends on the depth of the stretcher bars that you choose, but for the most commonly used depth (25m) you will need around 80mm spare canvas.
Yes, Pure Framing will stretch and frame your cross stitch or other needlepoint work using the most appropriate, reversible method available. This may be lacing, pinning or using other methods that will display it beautifully without affecting the original quality of the work.
Generally I prefer to deal with customers who can deliver and collect their work to/from my workshop near Carmarthen in person. It is possible to arrange for framed work to be delivered within mainland UK by a specialist Fine Art Courier. However, this service is costly, so unless your artwork is particularly valuable (so justifies the cost), it is probably more cost-effective for you to arrange to deliver and collect from me in person. I prefer not to send work by standard courier as frames (particularly glazed ones) are delicate and cannot take rough handling.
If you do specify that work should be sent by standard courier I will require you to sign a disclaimer that releases me from any responsibility should damage to the frame or its contents occur in transit as I will not be held liable for this and would always recommend a Fine Art Courier to transport framed work.
Pure Framing specialises in bespoke work, so each frame is made to measure for the customer’s artwork. Standard size ready-made frames are not something we offer, but I can make you a bespoke frame in a standard size if you want something really special.
I can frame pictures up to approximately 1000mm x 800mm if your framing package needs a mount and glazing (this size includes the mount border around the artwork). I can go a bit larger for un-glazed frames (e.g canvasses or paintings on board) – up to about 1500mm x 1000mm. Anything bigger than this, please get in touch and I will recommend an alternative framer who has the equipment to handle larger work.
At Pure Framing I try to work as sustainably as I can. I use frame mouldings from FSC approved sources as much as possible. Packaging used to protect completed frames is either recyclable, or recycled from packaging on items delivered to Pure Framing by suppliers.
All materials are carefully used to be as economic as possible.
Waste materials are disposed of responsibly and recycled wherever possible.
If a user can be found for waste materials then these are passed on (let me know if you could use mount board or moulding off-cuts for craft projects in local schools, clubs (or for your own use) and I will happily let you have materials left over from framing work).
Pure Framing no longer offers Fine Art Giclee Printing services.
I often have off-cuts of framing materials available for use in craft projects. It depends what I have available at the time, but if you need something please give me a call and I will help you if I have anything available.
