Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions
These are just some of the questions I get asked about picture frames from Pure Framing. If it isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and I will be happy to give you an answer wherever possible.
All of the frames I make are individually designed to your requirements. At Pure Framing the pricing of your frames is very straightforward. I offer you a free, no obligation consultation appointment at my workshop near Llangynog (Carmarthenshire). You bring the item you would like to have framed in and I will discuss your requirements with you. This will include the sort of budget you have in mind, your personal taste and design ideas, where you plan to display it and how much protection you would like built into the frame to protect the item.
If you don’t know where to start I will assist you by asking you some helpful questions so that I understand where you are coming from and I can then guide you through the process using my extensive frame design experience. You can see the design options for yourself before you choose with the help of the wide range of mount, moulding and glass samples I have available in the workshop. Once we have got it right, I will price it up for you.
You can go ahead there and then and leave your deposit for the work, or if you would like time to think about it, I will keep the details of what you have chosen and hold the price for two months.
Payments can be made by card, NFC (Google & Apple Pay) bank transfer (BACS) or in cash.
I take a deposit of 50% of the total cost of your framing work up front before I start the job to cover purchase of materials. The balance is payable on completion of the work prior to collection if paying by BACS, or on collection if paying in cash. All work should be collected within seven days of being notified that your work is completed unless otherwise agreed. Failure to collect within seven days may result in a storage charge as space is limited. If unforeseen circumstances mean that you can’t collect within this period, please give me a call to discuss.
Yes.
I can only give you an accurate price once I have seen what you would like to have framed, measured it and discussed the design and framing package with you. If you are a returning customer and already know the materials/design you would like already then it may be possible, but otherwise I will only quote when I have seen your artwork in the workshop.
The price of a frame will depend on the combination of the following variables:
- What you are having framed
- How much protection you want built into the framing package
- What sort of moulding you choose
- How you would like it mounted
- What type of mount board you need
- What sort of glazing you would like
As you can see, it is not something that I can give you a definitive answer for without seeing your item and working through the selection process of design and materials with you in person.
Just to give you an idea of the price variations I am talking about:
A 500mm x 500mm photograph with a 50mm mount border all round could range from around £160 for a simple window mount package up to around £650 for framing to level 1 (formerly called Museum level). The final price totally depends on the materials and mounting methods you choose.
Pure Framing is a small business, so not VAT registered. The price you are given is the total price.
The standard time stated to complete an order is around four weeks, although your order will often be completed in less time than this. The reason for this is that one of my suppliers only delivers once a fortnight to West Wales, plus I only work part time in the workshop and have to balance high customer demand. Please allow additional time at busy times of year (e.g. Christmas) and also if you have a specific date by which you need your framing completed.
Pure Framing is confident in the quality of materials and workmanship that go into the frames, so of course I am happy to guarantee my work and materials. You are given the opportunity to check your frame over in detail on collection. In the unlikely event that you find a problem with your bespoke frame after collection, then please get in touch and arrange to bring it back in so that I can sort it out for you. Please be aware that frames are delicate and need to be transported and handled carefully. They are also susceptible to changes / damage if hung or stored in an inappropriate environment. Advice is given to avoid these problems. However, even under these circumstances I would still encourage you to get in touch to discuss the issue and I will work with you to find a solution. If the problem is due to handling or the environment the frame has been kept in, I may have to charge you to sort out the problem depending on the level of severity. However, my goal is to have happy customers, and I would never want a customer to feel dissatisfied with either the service received or the quality of work, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have something you would like to discuss.
Yes, Pure Framing carries full Fine Art Insurance, so your item is covered both whilst in storage and also when being worked on during framing. Make sure that you know the value of your item so that you can give me this information when you bring it in for framing.
No, there is no charge for a consultation.
Allow approximately 20 minutes per item. Please let me know how many items / pictures you want to look at for framing when you book so that I can make sure I allow sufficient time for you before the next customer appointment.
I only see customers by appointment at my workshop. This allows me to give you my full attention whilst you are here and gives us enough space in the design area to focus on your framing project. Please get in touch to arrange a time that is convenient for you.
Yes, Pure Framing offers a wide choice of both decorative and natural wooden frame mouldings.
All of the frames I offer are made of wood, but there are metallic or gilt finishes available.
I have a wide variety of frame finishes, so make an appointment to come in and see the samples I have available and I am sure that we will be able to find something to suit your requirements.
I no longer offer a canvas stretching service.
Yes, Pure Framing will stretch and frame your cross stitch or other needlepoint work using the most appropriate, reversible method available. This may be lacing, pinning or using other methods that will display it beautifully without affecting the original quality of the work.
I do not offer framing work by mail order or courier.
Pure Framing specialises in bespoke work, so each frame is made to measure for the customer’s artwork. Standard size ready-made frames are not something we offer, but I can make you a bespoke frame in a standard size if you want something really special.
I do not take on oversized work due to the amount of workshop space I have available and the fact I work on my own, so this limits the sizes I can safely handle – particularly in terms of glass.
The maximum size I will offer for glazed pieces (and this will include any mount border as well as the actual image size) is 750mm x 800mm.
For an unglazed piece (e.g. a painting on board or on canvas) I will go slightly larger up to 1000mm x 1200mm.
At Pure Framing I try to work as sustainably as I can. I use frame mouldings from FSC approved sources as much as possible. Packaging used to protect completed frames is either recyclable, or recycled from packaging on items delivered to Pure Framing by suppliers.
All materials are carefully used to be as economic as possible.
Waste materials are disposed of responsibly and recycled wherever possible.
If a user can be found for waste materials then these are passed on (let me know if you could use mount board or moulding off-cuts for craft projects in local schools, clubs (or for your own use) and I will happily let you have materials left over from framing work).
Pure Framing no longer offers Fine Art Giclee Printing services.
I often have off-cuts of framing materials available for use in craft projects. It depends what I have available at the time, but if you need something please give me a call and I will help you if I have anything available.
